What is Green Laning?

Green laning is the driving of the many unsurfaced tracks and roads throughout the countryside that have vehicular rights. Some of these, date back thousands of years connecting farms, villages and market towns, but during the early 20th century most roads were covered with hard surfaces. Some of them (not many unfortunately) escaped this fate and still have Vehicular Rights of Way today. These tracks, roads are usually known as

BOAT – Byway open to all traffic. RUPP – Road used as public path. UCR’s – Unclassified country roads.

Not all Rupps have vehicular rights of way so you must be sure that they do before you drive them, also you may come across Byways that have TRO’s on them this is a Traffic Regulation order which restricts vehicles from driving them.

In the coming months, TriCounty will be organising Green Laning days, where our resident green lane expert Clive will be taking those ready willing and with just the right air of nutcase about them, out on the highways and byways of the local area to make sure they are well aquainted with the adrenalin rush of a near death experience.

Green Laning with Clive

After a long hard week driving nothing more exciting than a Dell laptop, I decided I needed an extra thrill. Pulling a cold can of Pepsi Max from the fridge, I expertly popped it and poured the contents enthusiastically down my throat and sat waiting for something exciting to happen as seen on TV.

Ten minutes later and no sign of the naked super model para surfer my imagination had promised me. Instead, the quiet calm of my kitchen retreat were shattered by what I still believe was the worlds noisiest belch! Encouraged by my new found status as Belchus Maximus, I scoured the web for cheap thrills that might involve my new KTM 450 with guest appearances from toliet roll and bandages.

The answer to my danger fetish brought on by overactive and self destructive testicles, was of course to seek out one of Berkshires premier Green Laners and all round motorbike enthusiast Clive from Tricounty Motorcyles. In a relaxed and fatherly way he offered my testicles the near death experience they were looking for and without hesitation I reached for my leathers and made for Bracknell, Berkshire.
